To all who knew her, Professor Qian was a beacon of happiness and positivity that shined no matter the circumstances. Undeterred by the plethora of obstacles she endured, she truly saw the most optimistic angle in any situation. Her fiercely unperturbed and positive attitude was truly admirable.

In many ways, Professor Qian wholly embodied the meaning of altruism. She made everyone around her - students, friends, and even strangers - feel welcome in an almost impossibly charming way.

Personally, Professor Qian made me feel comfortable throughout my time at Rice. I am grateful for all she has done in supporting me, and I truly wish I could have done more to help her in her final years.
